Produced by: Bill Green in San Antonio Texas
Recorded and mixed by Bill Green at BGM Studio, San Antonio, Texas July 2006

"This is a lifelong dream come true - to do an album together with some of my Texas friends. First of all I would like to thank Bill Green for producing it and singing on Honky Tonkin' Round and the odd song out on the album Across The Bridge. This was my mother's favorite gospel song and I dedicate it to her memory.

The introduction is done my Merle Kilgore. He was very sick when he didi it. Merle told his wife Judy to bring a small tape recorder to his hospital bed some days before his operation. He told her he had promised me to do it. He said to tell Red that this could be his last recording - and it was. My friend Merle Kilgore passed away on February 6, 2005. Merle was a great singer/songwriter, actor and businessman - but most of all he was a real gentleman and a true friend.
I miss you Merle.

It made me proud to record with the Texas legend Johnny Bush and that he liked the song we did, Neon Bible, which I wrote with my friend Jim Mundy.
Also thanks for joining me on  From Champagne To Beer.
Johnny is like me "too country and proud of it".

It was great to sing my tune "A Violin The Never Has Been Played" with the new traditional country music star Amber Digby.I wrote this song long ago and the legendary Johnny Paycheck recorded it. Amber is pure country - the real deal!

It felt good to have the master fiddler Bobby Flores om my sessions. On Swinging Doors he also proved that he is a superb singer. We also got one thing in common - we both love Tommy Jackson - The legandary fiddle player.

On her new album the Texas gal Leslie Tom sings a duet with Ray Benson from Asleep At The Wheel. Thanks for joining me on the tribute to Merle Kilgore (My Side Of Life) and Marty Robbins (The Beginning Of Goodbye). You sound great Leslie!

Mr "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down"  - The great Texan & Grand Ole Opry star Charlie Walker has been my true friend  for a long long time. He was an obvious choice for inclusion on this project. Charlie is the real deal when it comes to "Honky Tonk Music".

Augie Meyers and I have been friends for many many years. I toured a lot with him and Doug Sahm and it was always fun to be around them. Me and Augie will dedicate his favorite country tune Heartaches By The Number to the memory of our buddy Doug, who sadly passed away on November 18, 1999.

This album is dedicated to my wonderful wife Gunilla."

The Honky Tonk Man

Red Jenkins

”Hey folks Merle Kilgore – the old Ring Of Fire and Wolverton Mountain boy. I’ve
been in country music now for 60 years. I have met a lot of famous stars but
there is one guy that has really impressed me, my singing and songwriting friend
for many years – the one – the only – Red Jenkins. I want you to listening to him
– he’s a honky tonk man!”

Merle Kilgore

”Red Jenkins is my Swedish friend, and I enjoyed being a part of the Neon Bible project. I’m always glad to help promote traditional country music. I can hear inflections of our friend and mentor Larry Kingston throughout this CD. Thanks Red.”

Your friend, Johnny Bush

”I enjoyed the opportunity to get to work with Red Jenkins… he’s such a talented artist!”

Amber Digby

”It is always a pleasure to be on stage or in the studio with my buddy Red and it’s an honour for me to be on this album. No one loves Country Music more than he does and you can hear that when he sings. Great job Red!
It was great to have you here with us in Texas.”

Your friend – Bobby Flores

”I want to thank Red and Bill Green for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime to sing on such an amazing album! It was such a pleasure singing with you Red.
This was a huge honor for this Texas gal and I look forward to working with
these two stars in the future! Thanks so much and God Bless!!”

Love – Leslie Tom

”I have known Red and his wife Gunilla for over twenty years. He has a collection of my Honky Tonk records. He loves my Texas swing and 4/4 shuffle beat. I am glad that he is including me in his new album. Red always comes to see me when he comes to Tennessee. I always serve him and his wife some of my Texas chili.
Here’s hoping his new CD will be a big hit. From what I have heard of it, I am
sure it will be.”

Your friend – Charlie Walker

”Red Jenkins is my Country Music Hero. He is true to his Country Roots and know his music. As a producer and engineer in San Antonio, it is always a pleasure to work with Red because he knows what Country is all about. As a friend and fan I am honored to be a part of Red’s new album. He has been an inspiration to me to keep the real Country Music sound alive and well. Best of luck with this one pal, and many more to come!! Can’t wait to see you again next year!”

Your Texas Brother… Bill Green

”When I first heard the voice of Red Jenkins I said "There´s a great voice from one of the places I love, Kentucky". Then I found out Red was from Sweden, another place I love. We became good friends and have been for over 25 years, and it was an honor to sing on his new CD when he asked me. So I got to tell it like it is, and I did! ”

Mixed by T.W Cargile at County Q Studios, Nashville TN.
Mastered by Jimmy Dulin & Billy Yates at County Q Studios, Nashville, TN

"This is a lifelong dream come true - to do an album together with
some of my Nashville friends. First of all I would like to thank my buddy
the great singer/ songwriter Billy Yates for producing it and singing on
She Took His Breath Away, a song he wrote together with our songwriting
mentor Frank Dycus and Kerry Kurt Philips.  Also thanks for singing
on It's Easier Said Than Done, a song written with Melba Montgomery.
It makes me proud to have done duets with Billy because I know
his next duet partner will be a man we both admire - "The Rolls Royce
Of Country Music" George Jones.

The introduction is done my Merle Kilgore. He was very sick when he
didi it. Merle told his wife Judy to bring a small tape recorder to his hospital bed some days before his operation. He told her he had promised me to do it. He said to tell Red that this could be his last recording - and it was. My friend Merle Kilgore passed away on February 6, 2005. Merle was a great singer/songwriter,
actor and businessman - but most of all he was a real gentleman and a
true friend. I miss you Merle.

I did a package show together with Ed Bruce in the late 70's but I
could never imagine that we should record together. I've always liked Ed's deep voice and his singing and songwriting. He is a very charismatic person and there's no wonder he has also been in movies and done a bunch of commercials.
Thanks for the title track The Bartender and Ship My Body back To Texas.

I haven't known Becky Hobbs for more than a couple of years but when
I met her it felt like I had known her forever. A great singer/songwriter with an easily recognizable husky voice that I really like. Hope you like our version of Jones On The Jukebox. a killer song that she wrote with Don Goodman & Mack Vickery.

The great Johnny Cash once said in a liner note on one of Joe's albums that "Joe Sun is unique, his songs are super. He's in a  class  by himself and he's first
class". I agree - my buddy Joe has a style of his own and you recognize his voice directly. We have been writing songs and touring together for many years and we had fun doin' the tune we wrote "Rebel On The Rocks".

I first met my buddy Joe Diamond at Tootsies Orchid Lounge.
Ron Elliott the steelplayer told me to go down there and listen to him. I heard a voice that sounded like a cross between Johnny Paycheck and George Jones. No wonder - he had played bass and sung harmony in Paycheck's band. Thanks for cuttin' Whiskey Flavored Kisses and If Honky Tonks Have Doors with me.

I've known and admired  Melba Montgomery for a long long time. She is my favorite female singer of all time. Melba told me she hadn't been recording in a long time
so I guess her and Jerry Salley's tune This Time Around was a good song to cut. She knocks me out with her wonderful phrasing and deep southern accent. I'm proud to be a duet partner with Melba like George Jones, Charlie Louvin and Gene Pitney have been before me.

Me and John Riggs go back a long time - a real good friend. He's a great songwriter/singer with cuts by Mel Street, Hank Snow, Conway Twitty and many more. It was great doing She Makes Me Feel More Like A Man, a hit song he
wrote for the great Mel Street.

This album is  dedicated to my wonderful with Gunilla."

The Honky Tonk Man

Red Jenkins
”This is Merle Kilgore from Nashville, Tennessee. I´d like to say The Honky Tonk Man is coming your way and he´s my old buddy - you gonna love Red Jenkins!”

Merle Kilgore

”I first heard of Red Jenkins through a friend of mine, Frank Dycus. I'd seen Red's records in Dycus music room and had heard so many great stories that I felt as though I knew him. Several years pass and i was performing at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and after my performance a couple approached me and to my surprise it was Red and his lovely wife Gunilla.

It was that chance meeting that led to my first ever trip to Europe.
It would be safe to say that Red Jenkins was the first to introduce me to the music scene in Europe. And for that, I can't thank him enough.

When Red began talking about making a recording in Nashville, I jumped at the chance to work with him. There is not a kinder soul and a truer friend than Mr. Red Jenkins. Our time in the studio making this record was some of the funniest times recording that I've had. This Is pure honky tonk. This along with Red's smooth delivery has produced a CD that I can't stop listening to. In my musical career, I have to say that working with the great Red Jenkins is one of my proudest achievements.

I hope you enjoy this CD as much as Red and i enjoyed making it.”

/ Your buddy, Billy Yates

”My first trip to Europe was to the Netherlands to do a concert in 1981. Since then, my wife Judith and I have been back across the water many times. Over the years, we have had opportunities to meet and work with many wonderful people. We have established friendships I hope will last a lifetime. And, on top of that, it has been my privilege to sing for audiences that still love REAL Country Music.

Earlier this year (2006), Red Jenkins contacted me from Sweden. He said he was planning to record a project in Nashville, and wanted to know if I would consent to do a duet with him. I asked him if it would be REAL Country Music and he replied, he wanted it to be one of my songs. I said that would be close enough to REAL.

Well, we did it and it was an honor to be asked to work with a gentleman who still believes in the music! It was fun enough, and good enough and REAL enough, that we did a second song a few months later. Red and his wife Gunilla have become our dear friends; they’ve been guests in our home, and we hope to repay the visit in the near future.

Whatever transpires, you owe it to yourself to give this project your ear, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed doing the project with Red. Red Jenkins is REAL Country Music!!”

/ Your buddy - Ed Bruce

”I had more fun than a barrell of monkeys singing with Red on Jones On The Jukebox. His version captures the essence of the song. I felt like I was in a Texas dancehall, having a "Jack" or two... or three!”

The Beckaroo, Becky Hobbs

”I really enjoyed being a part of this CD. Red is a good friend and a great entertainer as well as being a great fan of traditional American country music. If you like your music "country" then listen to some of my friends who are on this with Red and you can only guess at the great time we had making this CD. Thanks for the chance to work with you again Red.”

Your friend – Joe Diamond

”Red, I really appreciate you´re letting me be a part of this album, where so many of our friends and heroes have taken part. My friendship with you and people like Ed Bruce, Melba Montgomery, and Becky Hobbs goes back a long way. One thing we have in common is the fact that we all love real country music. I have a deep respect for all of them.

I want to thank you for introducing me to a couple of new friends, Joe Diamond and Billy Yates, and also for helping me sing my song "You Make Me Feel More Like A Man", that Mel Street hit the Top Ten with.

Let me wish you much success with this project, and I'd like to think that Mel Street would like our version of the song almost as much as we liked his.”

Always a friend, John Riggs

”Throughout my travels of playing country music festivals and venues
in the world I’ve had a chance to meet many foreign friends. Many of
them making their livelihood or associated with the music business.
My good buddy Red is one of my most trusted friends from Sweden. I
can’t remember where we first met, he can probably tell you that. But
we played shows together, hung out in the honky tonks of the world,
and co-written several songs, one of which you will hear on this
record. The original idea for “Rebel On The Rocks” was Reds, an idea
he came up with when visiting Biloxi, Mississippi. He sent me the rough
draft and I changed the atmosphere to the River Gambling boats that
dock in Biloxi. When Red said he was making a CD with friends doing
duets I was honored to be asked to sing on it. When I heard we would
do one of the song we wrote I was thrilled.

You don’t get more authentic country then what Red has captured on
his new project “The Bartender (It’s All On The Jukebox)”. The lineup
of other singers on board is proof in itself of country music
authenticity, Red’s dedication and love for the music,
and his acceptance by other artists in our business to be a part of
it. I’m proud to be a part of this CD. Thanks Red for asking!”

Your buddy, Joe Sun

”Dear Red, It was such a pleasure singing with you and being a part of your new album. Thank you for choosing " THIS TIME AROUND" A song I co-wrote with
Jerry Salley. It was fun visiting with Ed Bruce and your producer - my good friend
and co-writer for several years, Billy Yates.

My husband Jack Solomon and I have enjoyed the friendship with you and your lovely family, Gunilla and your daughter Shannon for many years, and have always enjoyed the times you all have visited in our home. We wish you much success with the album.”

Love and best wishes, Melba Montgomery
